Thoothukudi, also popularly known as Tuticorin, is the Municipal Corporation of the district by the same name. Located in the Southeastern coast of the State of Tamil Nadu, it is a famous port town. The city is famous for its pearl diving, hence has also been christened as “Pearl town”. The city is also famous for fishing and shipbuilding. On the northern and western side of Thoothukudi lies Tirunelveli District and to its east is Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar. The capital city of Tamil Nadu Chennai is located at a distance of 600 km of from Thoothukudi city. the city is also close to Trivandrum which is located at a distance of 190 km.
